January Meeting Notes

Hello everyone, here are some notes from the club meeting this evening:

The meeting was called to order at 7:30pm with 22 members in attendance. Introductions were made as we had several new faces in attendance.  Minutes from the previous meeting and the treasurer's report were read and accepted.

Committee reports follow:

Education: We had five individuals for testing at the end of December.  The team issued passing grades for three new Extra class operators, one new General, and one new Technician.  KA8KDS wanted to welcome Tom Servoss (KC8UOM) to the VE Team.  Tom recently upgraded to Extra and immediately went out and got his ARRL VEC accreditation.

KB8ELG reports we have the Delta Public Library reserved for a Technician Class for the last three Saturdays in February (11th, 18, and 25th).  Classes would be from 10:00am to 2:00pm, with the FCARC providing all study materials.  We have one person interested in attending, and a maybe from a second person.  We would like to have at least three in attendance, of not more.  If you know of anyone interested, please have them contact KB8ELG at kb8elg@hotmail.com or myself at kd8kbu@arrl.net.

Repeater Committee:  K8LI gave us a rundown on the features and functions of the new repeater controller, a CAT-300DXL, which will be acquired very soon.  Some of the features we are looking to integrate include Echolink and IRLP and smart weather alerts.

Memorial Committee:  Nothing to report.

EC Report: Nothing to report.

Membership: Memberships are reset in January, as of this evening we have 39 paid members and lifetime members.  I'll have the membership list updated on the club website within the next few days, so if you do not see your name listed there, check to make sure we received your membership dues.

T-Shirt Committee: We are still looking at something like CustomInk.com for printing services.  This would allow us to upload our artwork and have it printed on a variety of shirts and other apparel on demand.  Club members can than pick the style and color they want and the club does not need to make a bulk purchase of various sizes up front.  For people uneasy about ordering online, we might have an order night at one of the club meetings where we show some of the options available and put a large order in.

Hamfest Committee: The Hamfest will be June 2nd at the Tedrow Woodlot.  In the next few weeks we'll be getting fliers together for posting at regional Hamfests and getting our Hamfest listed in the ARRL events database.  As in the past, we'll be having a special VE testing session during the Hamfest.

Old Business: With regards to the trailer for the mast, KC8UOM has generously donated a trailer for this use.  Tom and Bryan, as well as several other club members, will be working on this when weather permits.

Upcoming Events: The Henry County EMA is hosting NWS Skywarn Storm Spotting training on Tuesday March 13th. There will be two sessions, one at 2:30 PM and one at 7 PM. The training will be presented at the Henry County EMA EOC located at 1847 Oakwood Ave (County Rd 13) in the old Walmart Plaza. There is no need to pre-register.

Club Officer Elections: No changes in the lineup this year, the current officers all accepted their positions from last year.  We look forward to serving the club members and amateur radio in general.  Your 2012 club officers are:
