November Meeting Minutes

The meeting was called to order at 7:30pm by KB8ELG with 15 Club members in attendance.

Silent Key: As reported earlier this week, Ralph Smith (W8HG) passed away on Saturday.  There was visitation tonight, where WB8ZOI delivered a card.  The service will be Tuesday the 22nd.  The family has provided a list of local organizations and charities to donate to in lieu of flowers.

Members in Distress: It was reported that John Myers (KD8ZKE) father passed away last week, our condolences go out to him and his family.

The Treasurer report was read and moved to be accepted by KC8PCU and seconded by K8JPD. Bills to present included shipping and insurance charges for the repeater amplifier, totaling $81.  KC8PCU moved to pay the bills, seconded by KD8QHD.

Committee reports follow:

Membership: We have 56 Paid and Lifetime Members, thank you for your continued support.

Education: the first three Saturdays in February have been targeted for a Technician Class.  The class will be produced by KB8ELG, KC8PCU, and W8TUX.  The venue will be the Masonic Lodge in Delta.  Time to be determined.

Repeater: The amplifier has been returned from the manufacturer.  They benched the unit and could find no fault after an extended full power test.  KB8ELG reported he will replace all patch cables, concerned there may be a bad cable in the mix.

Festival of Lights:  The Archbold Police Dept has requested our help for the Festival of Lights Parade, this Friday, November 25.  Plan on meeting at the Con-Agre parking lot by 5:00pm.  Be sure HT batteries are full charged, bring a second HT if you have one.  Bring cold weather gear, and plan for rain.  Also make sure to pack a flashlight.  KB8ELG will have safety vests, as will the Archbold PD.  We will be operating on 146.460 FM Simplex.  David & Michelle Pugh will be having their open house for the volunteers following the event.

Winter Hamfest: We are about two weeks out from the Winter Hamfest.  All volunteers please plan on being at the American Legion on St Rt 109 at 5:20am.  Doors open to the public at 8:00am.  If you plan on wanting a table, please contact KB8ELG immediately to reserve one.

Christmas Dinner: We will waive the usual club meeting in December for our annual Christmas dinner at the Barn Restaurant in Archbold.  Dinner reservation time is 6:30pm.  Members are responsible for the cost of their dinner.  We will be in the large dining hall, so there should be plenty of room.

VE testing returns to the Archbold PD in January and back to it's original time of 9am.

KB8ELG would like to alter the meeting format by issuing minutes electronically ahead of the meeting in lieu of reading them during that session.  Experience in other organizations that have switched to this format has been positive as it helps to reduce meeting times.

KB8ELG also proposed the club consider assisting a charity in the 2017 calendar year.  It was discussed that options could include fund raisers, donations, or hamfest profit allocation.  He is looking for suggestions on worthwhile charitable organizations to assist.

Old Business:

We has 8 club members attend the CERT training this past weekend at NWSCC.  Thanks to the county EMA for extending the invitation to our group.  There was lots of good information and skill set building.  We look forward to a follow session in the Spring.
