Helping Hams

An old fashioned antenna raising!  One of our radio club members took a direct lightning hit this summer, destroying a vertical VHF antenna and damaging the control elements on his StepIR.   After a few months of acquiring replacement components, we started putting the system back together.  New enhancements to the StepIR included a 40 meter element, replacing the main feed point, and a heavy duty pivot plate that keeps the beam elements horizontal to the ground while the tilt tower is raised and lowered.  We got the beam balanced and positioned before a strong thunderstorm moved in and stopped work for the afternoon.

Hi folks, sorry for the delay in this.  I wrenched my back pretty good and did not make the meeting on Monday.  I have some notes courtesy of KB8ELG:

The meeting was called to order at 7:35pm with 12 members in attendance.  Introductions were made and the treasurer's report was read.  Committee reports follow:

The next club meeting will be held on October 17th at the County Building (same as the Drivers License Bureau), 152 S. Fulton St, Wauseon.  The club meeting will be at 7:30pm.  There are two regular meetings for the rest of 2011, The December club meeting will be the holiday dinner at The Barn restaurant in Archbold.

A few Notes to pass along:

- A quick thank you to everyone who helped out at the Lockport 5k run/walk last Saturday.  We had 10 club members on hand which was perfect for the length of the course.
- Ed Roth passed along a silent key, Stanley Fauver (W8ZHQ) of Wauseon.  While off the air for some time now due to health issues, Stanley was one of the last charter members of the club.  Stanley passed away October 3 at the age of 92.

Haming it up!

The following are meeting notes from the September 19th club meeting:

The meeting was called to order at 7:30pm by KD8KBU.  We had 18 people in attendance.  Minutes from the previous meeting were read by KB2AVN and accepted as well as the Treasures report by KB8ELH.  Individual committee and special reports follow.

Education/VE Report:
The VE Team conducted a regularly scheduled testing session on August 27th in Archbold.  We had two people attending, one for technician, one for extra.  Neither passed and no new CSCEs were issued.  KA8KDS reports we have several people scheduled for the September 24th testing session.  The session on the 24th will be held at the Delta Public Library at 12:00pm.

KB8ELG reported the Technician class is going well and the four people who are attending are doing quite well with the curriculum.  There will be a brief review session this Saturday from 10:00am until 12:00pm at the Delta Public Library, where we will have our monthly testing session.

Repeater Committee:

Lockport 5k Run/Walk

Since several people asked, here is the info I could find on the Lockport 5k.

When: Saturday October 8th, 2011, 9:30am
Where: Lockport Mennonite Church, Stryker, OH

We usually try to be there between 8:30 and 9:00 for assignments and setting up the base station at the Church.  The course is run on county roads through Goll Woods.  Things usually wrap up by 11:00am, sometimes sooner.  We have safety vests we'll bring along.  If you bring an HT, make sure you charge up the night before.  Otherwise most operate from their vehicles along the course.   We usually operate on 146.460 FM Simplex.

That's about all the info I have.  If anyone else has anything to add, please send to fcarc at mailman.qth.net.  Direct questions right to me by replying to this message.
