With Dave Nelson recovering from his recent surgery, I have been asked to fill in the role as VEC Liaison for our team for the next few months.  The ARRL has approved this change and I regret to say that my first act will be to cancel our normal testing session for the end of August since I will be unavailable that day.  I would like to think taking one month off our regular schedule should not be that big of deal since we do not have anyone scheduled yet anyhow.  I will plan on contacting the ARRL on Monday to adjust our schedule on their website.  I will also post a message to the club website indicating this action as well.

The next club meeting will be held on August 20th at the County Administration Building (same as the Drivers License Bureau), 152 S. Fulton St, Wauseon at 7:30pm.

The county is performing maintenance on the tower and rearranging some of the hard line, including our antenna feed.  This going to happen Monday, August 6th, but we are not 100% certain what time or what the duration will be.  With the backup repeater offline, we will not have anything on 147.195 for the day.  We are considering relocating the main repeater to the backup repeater site for the day, but we are not sue if it is worth the effort if it is only for one day.  We'll keep you updated as best we can.

Maker Faire Detroit 2012 is the last weekend in July.  I can't recommend this event enough to the Amateur Radio Community.  This is a "do-it-yourself" nirvana featuring all sorts of fabricating techniques and products.  It's not limited just to electronics, but covers everything from farming and growing to mechanical systems and prototyping.  It's at the Henry Ford which is just awesome to wander around as well.

A summary of the FCARC meeting notes for July 16th, 2012:

The meeting was called to order at 7:35pm with 16 members and guests in attendance. Introductions were made and minutes from the previous meeting as well as the treasurer's report were read and accepted.

Committee reports follow:

Education: The VE Team held a special testing session at Field Day 2012 with 3 participants, and two passing to General.  The VE team members have also assisted at testing sessions in the surrounding counties, assisting both Henry and Williams county.  A big "thank you" goes to our VE team who continue to do an excellent job with testing responsibilities, but also promoting the good of Amateur Radio among the area clubs.  Dave Nelson announced he will be taking a temporary break from VE duties for the next several months and handing the Liaison position over to myself (KD8KBU) until he feels healthy enough to take over the position again.  We look forward to Dave returning to that position.  For the time being, my contact information can be found on Testing page of the www.k8bxq.org website.

The Delta Chicken Fest is about all wrapped up this year. We had some excellent DX work on the club radios both Friday night and Saturday, and we had excellent help from the club members for the Parade this afternoon. Hope to see you out to the club meeting Monday evening.
