Dale Lavon Smith, age 73, of Hillsdale, Michigan, and formerly of Angola, Indiana, passed away on August 14, 2017, at the University of Michigan Hospital, Ann Arbor, Michigan.
Dale was born on August 11, 1944 in Angola, Indiana, the son of DeBurl and Dorris J. (Sickels) Smith.
He attended Fremont and Angola High Schools and graduated in 1963.
He was an electrical technician and retired from Williams Electric in Angola, Indiana, and was currently working for Swick Broadcasting and Zip Spider Internet, Angola, Indiana.
Dale married Delberta (Dow) Pattison on December 10, 2006 in Hillsdale, Michigan.
He liked to spend his free time with amateur radio, and used the call sign W9LKI, he was a member of the Land of Lakes 101 radio club, and years ago was involved in Civil Defense, and helped to bring the 911 system to Steuben County.
Survivors include his wife, Delberta Smith of Hillsdale, Michigan, daughters, Laura (Andrew) Leese of Angola, Indiana, and Danielle (Mike) Schilling of Grand Rapids, Michigan, a son, Brian (Teri) Pattison of Saginaw, Michigan, his mother, Dorris Smith of Angola, Indiana, his grandchildren, Ryan, Eric, Adam, Carrie, Elayna, Andrea, Kaitlyn, Erika, Andrew, and Ethan, a sister, Diane (Gene) Diehl of Fremont, Indiana, a niece, Deborah (Chris) Roach of Angola, Indiana, and a nephew, David (Angie) Diehl of Angola, Indiana.
He was preceded in death by his father, DeBurl Smith, and a nephew, Michael Diehl.
Calling hours will be held from 5-7 pm Thursday, and 11 am until 1pm Friday, at Beams Funeral Home, Fremont, Indiana.
Funeral Services will be held at 1 pm Friday, August 18, 2017 at Beams Funeral Home, Fremont, Indiana, with Pastor Glenn Flint and Pastor Daniel Pann officiating.
Burial will follow at Jamestown Cemetery, Fremont, Indiana.
Memorials are requested to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.
