HR 607 Update

I am forwarding this from an email received from Jim Weaver, K8JE,  Director, Great Lakes Division:

HR 607 is titled the Broadband for First Responders bill. Unfortunately, one of the bill's clauses would take the amateur 420-440 MHz frequencies in achieving its otherwise excellent objective.

Upon being introduced into the House, the bill was referred to the House Energy and Commerce Committee.  To date, the subcommittee has taken no action. In addition, in a meeting with a group of amateur constituents the bill's sponsor, Rep. Peter King of New York, has stated he no longer favors taking the amateur frequencies.  Finally, alternative bills having the same objective as HR 607, but that do not involve amateur frequencies, have been introduced into the House as well as the US Senate.

The club has has been invited back to the Delta Chicken Festival this year.  A major change is that we will be setting up our club table and radio rigs with the Delta Police and Fire & Rescue.  This is a huge deal since we are being presented to the public as part of the county's emergency responders.  Another honor is that we will be right next to a piece of the world trade center.  We will be assisting with the parade on Sunday from 2:00pm to 4:00pm as well.  The Delta Police were very impressed with how well we assisted in managing traffic and would like our help again this year.  The Chicken Festival runs July 8th-10th.

kc8zbc and kd8kbu start to unpackThe bands have gone quiet and the antennas have been stowed away.  Field Day 2011 is over and I think it was a pretty good success.  We had fantastic weather for the duration of the contest, the 6 meter band was open, and 10 meter yielded great results as well.  Thanks to all the people who helped with setup and tear down, and everyone who stopped out to talk and observe.  Despite a few minor technical glitches with the wireless logging network early on (nothing lost except a few hours of my time), we had a very efficient and compact setup for a 7A + GOTA.  Here are some highlights from the logging we captured I'd like to share:
