June Meeting Notes

The meeting was called to order at 7:30pm with 22 Club members in attendance.  Minutes and Treasurer reports were read and accepted. Committee reports follow:

Membership:  We have 53 Paid and Lifetime Members, thanks for your continued support.

Education:  No Report

Hamfest: The summer Hamfest was held earlier this month with very good reports on vendor and attendee satisfaction.  After expenses the club cleared about $250 in profit from the event.  KB8ELG also reports that the contracts are signed for the Winter fest, and we are making changes with the venue to make more breakfast foods available earlier in the day.

Repeater: The duplexers have been serviced by K8LI and we have received many reports on improved clarity and coverage.  The PA deck still needs to be integrated, which will happen sometime after Field Day.  The Fusion repeater is currently online in UHF mode and we are investigating the possibility of a real controller to add many of the convenience features we have on the primary and secondary VHF systems.

EC: K8JPD and KB8ELG reported that the Wednesday night Emergency Services nets have been going very well, and the goal of training new net controllers has yielded at least six members capable of running that net.  They also report that we will have much tighter integration with the National Weather Service out of Northern Indiana and would be considered primary contacts for the county.

The next club meeting will be held on June 20th at the County Administration Building (same as the Drivers License Bureau), 152 S. Fulton St, Wauseon at 7:30pm.

We are into the Summer season, which means Field Day will be here before we know it. Please plan on attending to discuss this event.

I have recently acquired an electronics warehouse company. With that being said I now have a full line of resistors, caps, Connectors, and various components in stock at all times. Please help me pass the word on to the Ham  radio community, all this and more is available at George's Radio. Most products are manufactured by NTE, Philmore, EKG and GEM electronics. I am also carrying coax up to 8u in-stock as well CAT 5 and CAT 6. I have a catalog that I can order from if I don't have in-stock what is needed at the time.

Thanks for your help

Also all club members, upon proof of there current membership to FCARC, will receive 10% off all purchases made through my company. (This excludes radios)

Hi folks,

First and foremost, the Club Field Day web page can be found here:

Field Day 2016 is 20 days out and it's time to start firming up event plans.  We will be setting up at the Roth Family Woodlot in Tedrow/Wauseon again this year, and since we usually only run the 24 hour period, we can begin setup after 8:00pm on Thursday, June 25.  This would be a good time to get antennas in the air ahead of the 2:00pm start time on Saturday, June 25.

If you are bringing a rig, and planning on running the full 24 hour contest, let us know what bands and modes you want to run, if you have a laptop for running the software (I have extra laptops I can bring), and what rig and antenna system you plan to run.  Make sure to bring plenty of extension cords to tie into the generator, as well as plenty of antenna feed line so we are not setting up on top of each other.

On the note of laptops, we do run networked logging software which aids immensely in filing the report with the ARRL, as well as keeping track of who is running on the allowed bands and modes.  This software will work work with Mac, Windows, and Linux.

Hello Hams,

In addition to the Email List and http://k8bxq.org/ website, we have always had a Facebook page which I have tried to keep up to date with relevant events.  I understand that Social Media outlet is not everyone's cup of tea, so I have added a Twitter account which will be a reflection of announcements made through the other communication channels.   You can find us at:

This also fits nicely with some extra points which are up for grabs this Field Day.  Social Media integration has been added as possible bonus points by the ARRL.  Not that Field Day is a horse race, but it is

Best Regards and hope to see a lot of you at Chelsea tomorrow for their Hamfest.

Hamfest Was a Success

We had a brief shower pass through early, but otherwise splendid weather for our Summer Hamfest. Thanks to all the club members who pitched in to help, and everyone who attended. By all accounts, it was a great success for the club.

As a reminder:
* The Chelsea Hamfest is tomorrow morning, doors at 8am.
* The Monroe Hamfest is June 19th (Fathers Day)
* The Club Meeting is June 20th
* And the ARRL Field Day is June 25/26 back at the Woodlot.
